Abstract:China is the biggest producer and consumer of aquatic products. The food-safety level of aquatic products is vital to the national economy and people's livelihood. However, a number of food-safety problems emerged in recent years, which mainly involved drug residues that exceeded standards, environmental pollution, harmful microbes and the heavy metals accumulation. Among them, the standard use of fishery drugs is closely related to the food-safety level of aquatic product, which influences not only the product quality, but also the ecological equilibrium, human health, aquaculture development and social stability. This review analyzed the current situation on the use of fishery drugs in China, and elaborated the hidden quality and food-safety problems caused by abuse and misuse of fishery drugs. A series of measures were presented, including standard use and supervision of fishery drugs to guarantee quality of aquatic products. [Chinese Fishery Quality and Standards, 2013, 3(4):1-6]
