The work lifejackets have been equipped on fishing vessels shorter than 45 m for a long time in China. As the standard of work lifejacket for ship was annulled (The new standard is being developed ) and the standard for marine lifejacket was amended, in the “Regulations for the Statutory Inspection for Fishing Vessel 2008 Amendment”，the terms related with equipment of work lifejackets for fishing vessels shorter than 45 m were modified. However, the modification was vague. To prepare for further amendment to the regulation, we have studied whether to cancel the equipment of work lifejackets for fishing vessels shorter than 45 m. The details, such as lifesaving needs, instance of marine accident, the different functions between work lifejacket for ship and marine lifejacket and the applicability of correlative international conventions and rules etc., were discussed and analyzed. Through the analysis, the author made the conclusion that the work lifejackets for ships should be kept in the fishing vessels shorter than 45 m. The suggestions for lifejackets equipment could be as references for further amendment of the rules for the inspection of fishing vessels. ［Chinese Fishery Quality and Standards, 2014, 4(5):34-39］
